IELTS stands for International English Language Test System. It is a test designed to help people prove their level of English either for academic or professional purposes in countries where English is either the native language or widely spoken. Such countries are the UK, Canada, USA, Australia and also the Netherlands and Denmark.

There are two types of IELTS examinations: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training.

IELTS Academic is a test which is necessary for those who wish to study in an English-Speaking university. It is accepted by over 11,000 universities worldwide. It has four parts: LISTENING, READING, WRITING and SPEAKING. The student is awarded a band score from 1 to 9 with 0.5 increments. Depending on whether the student takes the computer based test or the paper based test, results will be available from 3-13 days. Available test dates are frequent which means the test can be taken almost every week.

IELTS General Training is a test which is necessary for those who wish to study below degree level or use it for work experience or employment training. It also has four parts: LISTENING, READING, WRITING and SPEAKING. The student is awarded a band score from 1 to 9 with 0.5 increments. The student can take the computer based test or the paper based test.
